2010-2011

Welcome to our Kindergarten class page!

My name is Michelle Barnett. This is my third year teaching kindergarten. I enjoy my
job very much! Teaching children is a wonderful experience!!

Rules: Rules in -K- are pretty basic!

1) Keep our hands to ourselves and treat each other
nicely! We learn the "golden rule;" treat each other the way you want to be treated!
2) Homework: In -K- we do not have a lot of homework! I do send home a monthly
homework calendar that gives you ideas of what to do with your child nightly, or some of
the things we are working on in the classroom. There are always things you can work on
with your child. Such as: counting by 1's, 5's 10's 2's and backward; writing #'s neatly;
recognizing #'s 0 - 100; printing the alphabet; writing and reading sight words;
writing/illustrating stories; and of course reading to/with your child!!

Schedule:

Our daily schedule changes! The beginning of -K- has much more
exploration time. Towards the middle/end of the year, we are very busy getting ready for
first grade!

Morning:
Gym
writing in journal/abc review/word study
Mid-morning:
station time (this is when I am listening to your child read)
Recess/Lunch 11:00-11:40
Early afternoon: music, technology
Afternoon:                                                                                                  math/science/social studies
1:30: snack/activity time
Late afternoon:
                                                                                                          writer’s workshop/guided writing time
3:00: we get ready to go home

Additional:

It is very important for your child to attend school, in Kindergarten we do so much in the
classroom that can not be sent home!

Your child is given a folder, please be sure to send this with
them daily. It really helps to know that lunch money/notes will be in there! I also send
papers home in it for you to look at. We do have a daily snack. Parents are asked to send
in a snack for the whole class to share. (crackers, cheese, pretzels, veggies..etc.) Milk is
NOT given during snack time. If you want to send a special juice/drink for snack time it
is fine.

I send a weekly newsletter to keep you informed on what is going on in the
classroom, or any item your child might need for the next week.

If you ever have any
questions or concerns, please call me! 633-9744 at home or school 657-9318 ext. 269
Thank you for the opportunity to teach your child!
