Advanced Art Course Description

Advanced Art is for students who have successfully completed one year of Basic Art.

Knowledge of the design principles and elements are a must for the advanced students. Students will keep both a written and sketch journal as part of their grade. An in-depth look at techniques, styles, and periods of art will be undertaken. Assignments in drawing, painting, graphics, sculpture and ceramics will be part of the coursework.

Students will be required to develop a portfolio of work for the annual spring art show and sale. Examples of their work will be used for departmental instruction.

Students are required to do various community, school and individual projects.

Students are expected to be independent and careful workers using all skills mastered in Basic Art.

This is just a rough outline of the work will be tackling this year. Because you are in advanced art I expect you to be self motivated, able to cope with assignments that you aren’t tremendously enthusiastic about with an adult demeanor. ( get over it and do it anyway) I expect you will have your own ideas on things and will readily express them in an adult and forthright manner. That you already know you are here to work, work, work! That you understand the importance of meeting deadlines and due dates. That you realize that you have chosen to be here and therefore are desiring to be challenged by me as well as yourself.

Of course we will be able to have fun and work in an environment that is relaxed and free from the stress you will often feel in other classes. We will all be respectful of each other, our work, the materials provided, and the room provided for us.

We have many new things we can do so let’s just have fun and do it.

How to get an A in Advanced Art ---

1. be here on time each and everyday as much as possible

2. USE YOUR CLASS TIME TO WORK, WORK, WORK

3.  do homework as assigned - sketchbooks and journals are a must , planning pages too!

4. respect - each other, the materials you are given to use and yourself

5. ask questions and seek answers - of yourself, the teacher, your classmates, and the world in general

6. be responsible for yourself, help others and clean up willingly

7. bring treats for the class for no reason with no expectation of reward

8. remember you are your best asset------use your mind to see what others don’t.
