The meeting was called to order by M.A. Magri, President at 7:00 p.m.

         Passed:      By unanimous vote that the Board of Education approves the hire of Lindsay Carter & Shannon Taylor to the position of Cooks and Christy Bean & Susan Heberling to the positions of Food Service Aides.

         Passed:      By unanimous vote that the Board of Education approves the hire of Christina Leen, Michelle Herrington & Sherry Johnson to the position of Elementary Aides.

         Passed:      By unanimous vote that the Board of Education approves the hire of Beth Cain to the position of part-time Elementary Custodian.  

 

D.    Teacher Resignations

         Passed:      By unanimous vote that the Board of Education approves the hire of Nicole Miodowski to the position of JH Math/Science Teacher and Eugene Binder to the position of 5th Grade Teacher.

G.    Short Reception with Employees

The Board of Education held a 20 minute reception to meet with the new employees.

 

H.    Elementary Parking/Playground Project

This matter was tabled to be addressed at a future meeting.

 

I.     Elementary Security Update

This matter was tabled to be addressed at a future meeting.

 

J.    Library Coordinator Position

BOARD ACTION:  Motion By: C. Amey                                Supported By:  C. Knaggs

Passed:        By unanimous vote that the Board of Education approves the appointment of Marge Fruge to work in the Elementary Library two - half days a week.

 

K.    Special Education/Counselor Secretary Position

BOARD ACTION:  Motion By: C. Schneider                        Supported By:  C. Knaggs

Passed:         By unanimous vote that the Board of Education approves that, due to the additional job responsibilities placed upon the Special Education/Counselor Secretary position, the wages for this position be brought to the same wages received for the Secretary to the Principal position.

 

L.    Food Service Coordinator

BOARD ACTION:  Motion By: C. Schneider                        Supported By:  C. Knaggs

Passed:         By unanimous vote that the Board of Education approves that the wage for the position of Food Service Coordinator be set at $14.02.

 

M.   08-09 Board Goals

The Board of Education will review the proposed goals for the 2008-09 school year and will revisit this matter at the regular October Meeting.

 

N.    Hiring of Coaches

BOARD ACTION:  Motion By: G. Travis                               Supported By:  P. Ganley

Passed:         By unanimous vote that the Board of Education approves the hire of Scott Steele to the position of Varsity Football Coach, Joe Rickett to the position of Varsity Assistant Coach and Keith Albrecht to the position of Varsity Assistant.

 

O.    Board Projects

The Board of Education appointed the following special project groups.

 

Appointed to standardize the interview and evaluation process are Cathy Knaggs, Craig Schneider and M.A. Magri

 

Appointed to the Alternative Education Program/Building Group are Louise Blasius and Gale Travis.

 

Appointed to the Grounds, Maintenance & Security Special Projects Group are Cliff Amey and Paul Ganley.

 

These Special Project Groups will update the Board on a regular basis.

VI.          Information

Margie Christenbery reported that

 

Ø  The tentative student enrollment is 632. This is an increase of 15 students compared to the spring count and 11 students compared with the count last fall. The official student count day is September 24th. 

 

Joseph Sutherland, Elementary Principal reported that

 

Ø  The PTA purchased DVD/VCR players for each classroom and donated the racks to hold them under the TVs. The teachers also requested many items in their classrooms, which the PTA was able to supply.
The students and staff of CPS are very fortunate to have such a great PTA supporting our school.

Ø  The annual Elementary Candy Sale started today (September 12th) and will continue until Monday, September 29th. This Annual Fall Fundraiser raises money for Elementary assemblies, Camp Ozanam, Battle of the Books, Reading Month, Family Fun Night, and many other activities.

 

Ann Binienda reported that

 

Ø  CPS had a great start to the school year with teachers returning on August 27th and students returning on September 2nd.

 

Ø  The Homecoming Parade (in Port Sanilac starting at 4:30 p.m.) and Football Game (7:00 p.m.) will be on Friday, September 19th. Homecoming Dance is 8:00 p.m. until 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 20th
