As a requirement of the Federal Headstart Program, Beverly Sleda, Headstart Teacher/Coordinator requested permission to have a fence erected around the Headstart Playground at no cost to the District.

      = ;            = Scott Bular & Brenda Cutler reported that:

 

Ø       The core classes have been practicing ACT type test questions throughout the semester to prepare students for the ACT test.

Ø       On February 25th= all 11th grade students took part in a full length ACT practice test.

Ø       High School testing w= as administered on March 11th, 12th & 13th at St. Mary’s Paris Hall. Day 1 was the ACT Test, Day 2 the Michigan Mat= h, Science, and Social Studies tests & Day 3 the WorkKeys test.=

Ø       Teachers are continui= ng to realign curriculum to the new content standards. To help prepare student= s to take Chemistry and Physics in high school, the Science Department has reque= sted that Earth Science be moved to the 8th grade and Physical Scienc= e to the 9th grade.

Ø       High School math and science teachers attended a two day training session at the Sanilac Career Center to break dow= n the new Michigan Content Standards. They learned ways to develop better tests t= hat are more aligned to the new standards and worked on using formative assessm= ents in the classroom.

Ø       MEAP scores are being review and the results analyzed. Steps have been taken to address all areas= of the MEAP assessment by enhancing our curriculum in all grade levels. The Bo= ard of Education took action (See Curriculum Committee Report) to enhance curriculum at all levels.

Harold Titus reported to= the Board that a letter from Mr. Tim Edwards, Superintendent of the Sanilac Car= eer Center, was sent home with each Math/Science Center student stating that the 2008-09 Juniors & Seniors will continue the program, 2008-09 Sophomores will be eligible to continue independent research with monthly support and = in the 2009-2010 school year there will be a new accelerated offering with a n= ew selection process.

    Curriculum Committee Report

Passed:      By unanimous vote that the Carsonville – Port Sanilac School District Bo= ard of Education approves the 2007-08 budget amendment #2, which projects gener= al fund revenues of $5,042,342.29 over expenditures of $ 4,889,535.54 with a projected fund equity of $973,101.82.

Ms. Christenbery present= ed the preliminary 2008-09 Budget Projection for the Board to review. This budget, with any needed revisions, will be presented again in June 2008 for the Board’s consideration.

 

D= .     My Choice Energy

Harold Titus and Margie Christenbery reported on the My Choice Energy Program.  To save on energy costs, the distr= ict can contract with My Choice Energy to provide Natural Gas delivered through SEMCO.  There is no sign up fe= e and the contract can be cancelled at any time.=   Savings will vary on a month to month basis, but the district could potentially save an average of 1.45% per month.

By unanimous consensus, Joan Nagelkirk was appointed to represent the Carsonville – Port Sanilac School District at = the April 21, 2008 ISD Budget Review Meeting.

Harold Titus, Superintendent:

 

·      =          Congratulated Dawn Titus,= CPS Special Education Coordinator/Teacher Consultant, who has been selected to receive the STRIPES award from the Sanilac Intermediate School District Advisory Committee. This is a very special award which honors Specia= l Talented Recognized Individuals Providing Education to <= u>Special Students. The award is given to an individual nominated from each sc= hool district who makes a significant difference in the life of their students. Jeremy Macejewski, CPS Student Services Coordinator/Athletic Director, was selected for this award in the 2006-07 school year.

·      =          A collaboration meeting between = Sandusky, Deckerville and CPS School Districts Superintendents and Board Members will= be held on May 22nd.

·            = ;   Harold Titus, Margie Christenbery and Ed James met with the MSBO Energy Essentials Program consultant.  The consu= ltant then did a walk through of the buildings and met with the custodial staff.  The Energy Essentials Task Force w= ill meet on May 7th for the initial full team meeting.

 

 

Joseph Sutherland, Elementary Principal, reported that:

 

·            = ;   Miss Robson’s 6= th grade science classes will host a science fair on Friday, April 18, in the = CPS Elementary gym from 1:00-2:30 PM.  The public is invited to attend.<= /o:p>

·            = ;   Fourth grade students= will be tested for band instruments on Friday, April 18.

·            = ;   Elementary Spring Pictures will be taken on April 24th.

·            = ;   The Elementary Daddy/Daughter Dance will be held on May 3rd

·            = ;   The PTA is sponsoring= a Gold Party on Saturday, May 17, from 9-12 (noon) in the CPS Elementary Libr= ary. Bring your unwanted, outdated gold jewelry, and be generously paid for it. = Gold is selling at very high prices. Turn your gold into cash.

·            = ;   Kindergarten Graduati= on will be held on Friday, June 6th, at 10:00 am in the gym. This is the graduation ceremony, but it is not the end of school. Kindergartners wi= ll return to class until June 11th.<= /o:p>

·            = ;   Several end of the year fieldtrips are being planned at the elementary. The kindergarten class will visit the Octagon Barn, 1st grade will attend a St. Clair Community College Play, 2nd grade will visit = the wetlands at the Sanilac Career Center and the Detroit Zoo, 3rd grade will visit the Port Huron Museum, t= he 4th grade fieldtrip is to be announced, 5th grade will visit <= st1:PlaceName w:st=3D"on">Crossroad Village and 6th grade = Greenfield Village.

 

 

Ann Binienda, High School Principal report= ed that:

 

·            = ;   Junior High students = will be starting ATV Training and Boater’s Safety Classes from April 21st through May 2nd.=
