The Annual School Board
Election will be held on May 6, 2008. CPS has two (2) – four year
positions open and one (1) - one year position open. Also on the ballot, the
district will be asking the voters to renew the expiring operating millage =
on
non-homestead property.
The last day to register=

vote is April 7, 2008. Voter registration forms are available at the Sanilac
County Clerk’s Office, Secretary of State’s Office, Village or
Township Clerks’ Office. Absentee Voter Ballots will be available on
April 16 and the last day to request an absentee ballot by mail is May 3, 2=
008
by 2:00 p.m. (Other emergency deadlines may apply.)

Update

on the status of the Sanilac Career Centers Math/Science Program. In the
2008-09 school years, students who will be in the 11th and 12th grade and a=

who will be in the 10th grade and are presently enrolled in the program, wi=

meet monthly for math/science research projects.

commended Board Member, Louise Blasius on her achievement of earning the Aw=

$70 per day starting in the 2008-09 school year and to help insure that the
students of CPS have quality substitute teachers, the Board of Education
consider raising the sub teacher pay to $70 per day.

County Career Center Engineering/Design SAE Baja team’s trip to Hough=
ton

proposal is being developed for possible expansion of the Alternative Educa=
tion
Program. Harold Titus, Margie
Christenbery and Ayshe Long will continue working on the proposal and will
update the Board at the April Board Meeting.

Michigan
School Business Officials (MSBO) Energy Essentials Program will have an ini=
tial
walk through of the buildings later in March. Margie Christenbery is organizing a
committee to meet with the MSBO Team. Cliff Amey volunteered to represent t=
he
Board of Education on this committee.
Other possible committee members are the Superintendent, Business
Manager, Maintenance Supervisor, Principals, and Curriculum Directors.
Joseph Sutherland, Elementary Principal,
reported that:

Elementary parents, grandparents and o=
ther
significant adults are invited to join their CPS student for a “Top of
the Morning” Breakfast on Monday, March 17, 2008.

March
is reading month and the elementary has had numerous activities to celebrate
the theme “Exercise Your Mind”. Among the activities to still be
presented are Michigan Team Day, Reading Around the School, Read Aloud Spor=
ts
Legend, a Sports Motivational Speaker, Favorite Sports Day, a Basketball Ga=
me:
COPS vs. Teachers, and a visit to the High School to watch the play “=
We
the People” presented by CPS Theatre 13.

Mrs.
Erbe, Elementary Librarian, is offering a “Build a Book” Progra=
m.
Adults and students will spend an evening creating a book together. The cos=
t of
$6.49 per book includes all the supplies needed to become the author of your
very own book.

The Senior High Quiz Bowl team brought
home the Sportsmanship Trophy. This trophy shows that CPS team members have

Performance will be held on Sunday, March 30th.
