The Annual School Board Election will be held on May 6, 2008. CPS has two (2) – four year positions open and one (1) - one year position open. Also on the ballot, the district will be asking the voters to renew the expiring operating millage = on non-homestead property.

 =

The last day to register= to vote is April 7, 2008. Voter registration forms are available at the Sanilac County Clerk’s Office, Secretary of State’s Office, Village or Township Clerks’ Office. Absentee Voter Ballots will be available on April 16 and the last day to request an absentee ballot by mail is May 3, 2= 008 by 2:00 p.m. (Other emergency deadlines may apply.)

Harold Titus reported th= at support staff members met with St. Clair RESA Representatives to get started on the transition from the current Power School Student Management Program to the Zangle Student Management Program. Representatives will now meet with the 3 other Sanilac school districts converting to Zangle and a conversion/traini= ng schedule will be created.

<= ![if !supportLists]>G= .     Math/Science – New Program = Update

Harold Titus updated the= Board on the status of the Sanilac Career Centers Math/Science Program. In the 2008-09 school years, students who will be in the 11th and 12th grade and a= re presently enrolled in the program will attend a ½ day program. Stude= nts who will be in the 10th grade and are presently enrolled in the program, wi= ll meet monthly for math/science research projects.

The Board of Education commended Board Member, Louise Blasius on her achievement of earning the Aw= ard of Merit Certificate through the Michigan Association of School Boards. Lou= ise will be honored at the Sanilac County Association of School Board’s Meeting on April 14th.

Passed:         By unanimous vote that the CPS Board of Education supports the entrance of Deckerville into t= he NCTL and encourages an open dialog between Deckerville and the NCTL to expl= ore common ground.

Harold Titus, Superintendent recommended t= hat:

 

·            = ;   The Board of Education consider the hire of Rhonda Miller to the position of Bus Driver, vacant due to the retirement of Susan Viscogliosi.

·            = ;   Because all Sanilac County School Districts are considering a raise in substitute teacher pay to $70 per day starting in the 2008-09 school year and to help insure that the students of CPS have quality substitute teachers, the Board of Education consider raising the sub teacher pay to $70 per day.

 =

Passed:            By unanimous vote that the Board of Education approves increasing substitute teacher pay to $70 per day startin= g in the 2008-09 school year. 

 

Margie Christenb= ery, Business Manager reported that:

·            = ;   Two CPS students, Seniors Ian Magri and Matt Monzo, represented CPS on the Sani= lac County Career Center Engineering/Design SAE Baja team’s trip to Hough= ton Michigan. The te= am raced against 25 of the finest SAE Baja teams from around the United States. The Winter Baj= a Race hosted by Michigan Tech. continues to grow and is now one of the 4th largest Baja events in the Nation.   The Sanilac Career Center Team placed 14th out of 25 cars in the endurance race, 9th in the fastest lap competition and 2nd in the advisors race. Most teams were competing with proven cars from previous years; the Career Center Team logged the extra effort to be one of only two teams in attendance with a 2008 car.

·         A proposal is being developed for possible expansion of the Alternative Educa= tion Program.  Harold Titus, Margie Christenbery and Ayshe Long will continue working on the proposal and will update the Board at the April Board Meeting.

 

·         Michigan School Business Officials (MSBO) Energy Essentials Program will have an ini= tial walk through of the buildings later in March.  Margie Christenbery is organizing a committee to meet with the MSBO Team. Cliff Amey volunteered to represent t= he Board of Education on this committee.  Other possible committee members are the Superintendent, Business Manager, Maintenance Supervisor, Principals, and Curriculum Directors.=

 

Joseph Sutherland, Elementary Principal, reported that:

·         Elementary parents, grandparents and o= ther significant adults are invited to join their CPS student for a “Top of the Morning” Breakfast on Monday, March 17, 2008.

·         March is reading month and the elementary has had numerous activities to celebrate the theme “Exercise Your Mind”. Among the activities to still be presented are Michigan Team Day, Reading Around the School, Read Aloud Spor= ts Legend, a Sports Motivational Speaker, Favorite Sports Day, a Basketball Ga= me: COPS vs. Teachers, and a visit to the High School to watch the play “= We the People” presented by CPS Theatre 13.

·         Mrs. Erbe, Elementary Librarian, is offering a “Build a Book” Progra= m. Adults and students will spend an evening creating a book together. The cos= t of $6.49 per book includes all the supplies needed to become the author of your very own book.

 

Ann Binienda, Hi= gh School Principal reported that:

·         CPS Alumni, Timothy Blasius will be recognized by the Univers= ity of Michigan for his= outstanding academic achievements and will be designated a James B. Angell Scholar in recognition of all A’s for 5 consecutive terms.

·         The Senior High Quiz Bowl team brought home the Sportsmanship Trophy. This trophy shows that CPS team members have represented CPS in a most honorable manner.

·         Theatre 13 will be presenting their sp= ring play “We the People” on March 27, 28 and 29th. The Dinner Theat= re Performance will be held on Sunday, March 30th.

·         A meeting of the Curriculum Committee should be scheduled. The Board approved a meeting to be held on April 15, 2= 008 at 6:00 p.m.
